Nikkei bounces 2.5%

<p>The Nikkei is up by 2.5 per cent today.</p>

The Nikkei has recorded its strongest day of growth in the last three weeks today (August 1st).

After posting a 0.1 per cent increase in value for the whole month of July, it rose by 2.5 per cent during today’s trading session.

According to a report by Reuters, data for the manufacturing sector in China that was better than had been expected helped to push the index higher today.

The Nikkei added 337.45 points over the course of the session to end the day at 14,005.77, while the broader Topix jumped by even more, enjoying a bounce of 2.8 per cent to close up at 1,163.39.

Among the areas performing particularly strongly was the banking sector subindex, which rose by 4.2 per cent over the session.

The Nikkei dropped back 1.5 per cent to end the day at 13,668.32 yesterday, ending the month of July on a low after a topsy-turvy week for the index.
