Hong Kong shares were up today (July 16th) after China posted second quarter growth data that was better than expected.
The world's second economy expanded by two per cent in the second quarter from the previous quarter, taking annual growth to 7.5 per cent.
The Hang Seng Index rose by 0.3 per cent to 23523.28.
However, other Asian markets remained flat. Japan's Nikkei share average was down after staying nearly flat for most of the session, as investors took profits from gains the previous day, Reuters report. It ended 0.1 per cent lower at 15,379.30.
The broader Topix was flat at 1,273.59, and the JPX-Nikkei Index 400 was also flat at 11,588.37.
South Korea's Kospi rose by less than 0.1 per cent to 2013.48. Australia's S&P/ ASX 200 was up 0.1 per cent at 5518.90, and the Shanghai Composite was down 0.2 per cent at 2067.28.
