Google announces Android KitKat tie-up

The next version of Google’s operating system will be KitKat.

Google has confirmed it has named the next update of its operating system KitKat.

The firm has teamed up with KitKat manufacturer Nestle to announce the deal today (September 4th), with neither company believed to have paid the other.

John Lagerling, director of Android global partnerships, told the BBC that it is not a "not a money-changing-hands kind of deal", explaining the idea was to do something "fun" and "unexpected" for the latest release of the operating system.

Android KitKat will be released on to devices such as the Nexus range of smartphones and tablet computers once it has been completed by Google.

Previous operating systems from the firm have had names such as Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich.

The share price of Google is up 0.80 per cent at 16:30 BST this afternoon, while stocks in Nestle had dropped by 0.16 per cent this afternoon following the release of the news.
