Admiral shares slide after insurance gender rules change

Shares in Admiral have slipped following the change to gender rules in calculating insurance premiums.

Friday December 21st marked a turning point for how premiums and benefits are calculated, with female motorists no longer being charged less for cover, bringing quotes for women drivers level with those of their male counterparts.

Nevertheless, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has insisted insurance products will stay competitive for customers despite these changes.

The ABI stated that it was opposed to the reforms as they go against the principle of pricing cover according to risk.

Nevertheless, it remarked: "The insurance market will remain competitive and customers should continue to shop around to get the right policy at the best price."

At 14:40 GMT today (December 24th), Admiral's shares recovered after plunging to 1177.00p this morning, sliding by 0.1 per cent to 1198.00p.
