More than 235,000 new jobs have been created in the US over the course of the last month.

Data revealed by the US government today (March 8th) indicated February saw 236,000 jobs added to the economy in total, which was much higher than analysts had expected.

Speaking to BBC News, Joseph Trevisani, chief market strategist at Worldwidemarkets, stated there is "unmistakable" progress being made in the US at the present time.

He said: "The economy is producing more than twice as many jobs as it did at the low point in the second quarter of last year."

Official figures showed that the unemployment rate fell to 7.7 per cent last month, down from 7.9 per cent in January, now standing at the lowest since December 2008.

On the back of the jobs news, the Dow was up by 28 points – a rise of 0.2 per cent – and stood at 14,356.68 at 16:00 GMT.
