What are extended hours?
Most traders must wait until the market opens to react to breaking news or company earnings.
In fact, the majority of quarterly results – especially when it comes to tech and bank stocks – are released after the main session finishes, so any market movement that results off the back of an earnings release is inaccessible until the market opens again.
Extended trading hours are simply an extension of the main market session. With our exclusive extended trading hours, you can react to releases in real-time by taking a position on major US shares as soon as any reports are announced.
Extended trading hours are integral to taking advantage of the market volatility.
Are there any risks for trading during extended hours?
Like any market, there’s a certain level of risk involved. When it comes to extended trading hours, here are some things to bear in mind:
- Lower liquidity – trading outside of the traditional hours means there are fewer market participants. This means there could be more difficulty in getting your order filled
- Higher volatility – lower liquidity can lead to large moves in price, which can be a positive or negative depending on your level of risk appetite
- Wider spreads: spreads are affected by low liquidity or high volatility. Spreads can be wider outside of normal trading hours due to these two factors
